    Hi Tom,

I've been super-impressed by the full-throttle and full-bodied way in which you commenced this challenging project. I do have some questions re. your proposal; it's not clear exactly if you're designing a game or creating an animated short. I presume what you're doing is simulating 'game-play' - so your actual final thing will be a collection of 'in-game' demos? All I'd say to you is there's a challenge implied here in terms of making your final submission engaging and dynamic. Just looking at your very early simulations, it does appear you might run the risk of creating something that is actually quite boring to experience visually (because we're not ourselves actually playing the game). The style here is 'non-immersive' - i.e. we're looking from afar at a slab of terrain in a sort of axonometric way. We watch chess-pieces move from one element to the next, with text elements popping up to help teach us about the process. My concern is that you might create something that is stylish, and yet dull - and distancing, because of the sort of game that it is. This isn't a criticism of the conception of the project in broad terms, but it is me flagging up the potential for your execution of this gaming idea to fail to excite... Discuss!
